Suryanarayanan Balasubramanian has a background in Mathematics, Environmental Sciences and Atmospheric Physics. He received his PhD from the University of Fribourg, where he developed hardware and software solutions for the efficient construction of ice reservoirs. Through his startup Acres of Ice, his team is addressing the water crisis in mountain communities caused by receding glaciers. They provide innovative glacial conservation solutions such as automated ice reservoirs, drip irrigation systems, snow covers and glacial lake draining and freezing systems.
Dr. Suryanarayanan Balasubramanian is at CAS upon the invitation of Dr. Anna-Maria Walter (CAS Researcher in Residence/LMU) during the summer semester 2025.
